Re: Oct trip to Tucson

We just returned from a fantastic trip to Tucson, to visit los abuelos, Nana and Papi. Fortunately, they BOTH took some time off work and we all had a great time. Here we are one day visiting the desert museum.

The plane trip was a bit of a challenge. Dahrius has always been a great traveler, but Ranier....another story.

Dahrius had a lot of special adventures with Papi.

We spent about 2 days up at the cabin in Mt. Lemmon, which was certainly an adventure!
A serious storm blew in the first night of our trip, killing the power for over 24 hrs.
Here's Dahrius helping Nana make pancakes the first morning (still power).

That first stormy morning (cold, wet, windy), Dahrius REALLY wanted to go to the lake and try his hand at fishing. Papi got him a new fishing rod, and D had been practicing casting for days to prepare. After his first cast, Dahrius asked when the he'd catch his fish (clearly expecting one to bite within 30 sec).

Well, no luck this foggy morning, but we returned to no power at the cabin. We had a cozy fire and some relaxing, but in the p.m. Dahrius wanted to return to the lake to try again. Papi would have preferred to have a quiet afternoon in the cabin, but went along.

It's a good thing he did, because Dahrius caught his first fish!!! (sort of). What really happened is that Dahrius was bored with standing still by the lake, and was climbing on some rocks nearby when there was a bite! Papi began reeling in the line, and calling to Dahrius to come catch his fish. So "together" they caught it, notably in Great-Grandpa's special spot.

They brought the fish back live, and then it squirmed quite a lot when removed from the water. It was very silly, and Dahrius was too scared to touch it at first.

Since we had no power, we had "blackened" fish, cooked on the fire. YUM!

Another highlight of the trip was a visit to the train museum, which both kids loved.

On our last full day, we also went to the desert museum, where Ranier learned a new word, "Javelina".

The boys also had great fun with their "globos" and Ranier carried his all around and would no be parted with it, even for a trip outside.
