Re: more Berkeley fun

Dahrius & Baba in the garden

We were given a fantastic gift of live caterpillars and a butterfly "house" by Megan's aunt Cathy. We watched the caterpillars grow every day, then form chrysalises and finally hatch into butterflies!!!! It was very cool and we were all excited to watch the process. Here's Dahrius with a butterfly that we were releasing.

Manda came to visit last weekend and cooked up loads of tasty Persian food. She was a big hit with both boys, and now Dahrius is counting well to 10 in Farsi.

We have been trying to get out and about when the weather is good (frequent). here we are at the Berkeley marina on a clear, lovely day. Dahrius is getting some extra exercise pedaling his trike against the wind.

Here is little D gently holding one of our "Painted Lady" butterflies before releasing. He was pretty into it!

No doubt Manda is talking silly baby talk in Farsi--Ranier was eating it up (and the napkin)!!

Ranier LOVES riding in the swing. IT's very cute to see him kicking his legs with glee each time he is pushed in the swing. He kept kicking his socks off, so I put them on his hands...which of course wound up in his mouth.

With the playoffs in baseball, we were inspired to get some early training in with little D. Here's Baba working on Dahrius' swing with the whiffle ball. It was very cute grandfather-grandson time. Despite Baba's patient efforts, Dahrius did not hit or catch too many (any?) balls. However, fun was had by all and we'll be out there again soon

Dahrius and I were keeping each other company a few nights ago while his mom and dad celebrated their 7th anni with dinner out in Berkeley.

As usual the conversation ranged widely -- airplanes, airplane destinations, maybe No. Carolina(!!), the importance of eating vegetables . . . BART trains.

Then, out of the blue he said,
--Maman [Mina] is adorable.

I now know his trick of memorizing every word he hears, so I asked,
--Did Maman call you adorable?
--Yes, she did.
--Well, what does adorable mean?
He thought for a minute.
--It means you pick up your stuff . . .

He listened to me on the definition of adorable, then decided that we should go downstairs and read a book . . . AFTER we brush our teeth and pee and put on pyjamas . . .

So, we did.
