Berkeley for the holidays

We're in Berkeley, enjoying the madness and mayhem of having Manda, Yalda, Jim, and cousins Chloe and Walker share the house, along with Maman and Baba, of course. It was non-stop running all day, except for a few exceptional moments when we were able to corral the kids for a moment to take some photos. Here they are wearing their silly hats from Manda.

Dahrius is asleep, blissfully unaware of tomorrow's importance to a child's universe. Chloe and Walker, on the other hand, are obvious going to be celebrating Xmas sleep-deprived.

Merry Xmas!

Early Xmas 2006

We held our own mini-Xmas here in Durham this weekend. Dahrius' big present was a bound collection of classic Thomas the Tank Engine stories. We immediately read the first few stories. We are just as excited as Dahrius to have new reading material!

A note on posting

Fellow Dahrius-Days posters....

This post only applies to those of you with permission to post. If you think you would like to contribute, send me (ahrashb@earthlink.net) an email.

Feel free to post in whatever way you like, but for some strings, such as the collected list of Dahrius' sayings, it makes more sense to just add on to the original post. Here is how you do that:

Click on "New Post", as though you are going to write a new entry. There is a sub-menu under the "Posting" tab in the upper left-hand corner, which includes three options: "Create", "Edit Posts", and "Moderate Comments." Choose "Edit Posts". A list of all previous posts will appear. You can choose to "Edit" the old post, at which point it will pop up in a posting window and you can do whatever you like with it. If you want to keep the formatting of previous posts, the easiest thing to do is to copy an old post, paste it at the end, and then write over the words (the formatting will be preserved in this way).

Happy posting!

Maman's entry

I wanted to post my first blog with the quotation you already have of Dahrius talking to me (Maman!)
What about this?:
When Dahrius was 18 months, Ahrash asked "Dahrius, how is your Hommos? Is it OK"? Dahrius said: "It is A OK!"
Dahrius continues to use big words all the time. he also is a great mimic and has a great memory for words and sentences. Make sure you do not say anything in front of him if you do not want it to be repeated in public!

Some collected Dahrius sayings....

Dahrius seems to have a penchant for using sophisticated phrasing with a twist.... feel free to add those phrases that have stood out to you.

"Maman, be quiet! I'm peeling my eyes for fire trucks!"
- To Maman, who was trying to get Dahrius to look at buildings, trees, and such, while riding in the car.

"I'm not cooperating."
- To Baba, who walked in while daddy was trying to get Dahrius' diaper changed.

"I'm eating some dee-te-dee, and you're having some doo-te-doo."
- All the time, when Dahrius decides to make up words, especially in reference to food.

"Sinciling."
- This is one of Dahrius' favorite activities. As best we can tell, this involves a quick shuffle of the feet while staying in one place, preferably on a soft(ish) surface, followed by a full-body collapse while yelling "Drop!" Here is a video:

letters, letters

Dahrius is really into his letters lately, with the favorite being...the letter D!! He loves to play with floating letters in the bath and spell all sorts of words. Plus, he wants to know what words start with each letter. For example, "H" is for horse, and hat, and hullaballo (which Dahrius thinks is hilarious). Thanks to nana's gift of the letter placemat, we talk about letters/words every day.

Alright, alright already...

Hi all,

We have been weathering the numerous requests for more and better information, pics, and whatnot (especially where D is concerned) with a mixture of agreement and exasperation. Ah, to have more time, but I suppose that is the way of things. In any case, rather than try to create a cool and flexible web page for regular posts, I figured that the simplest thing is to start a blog. The primary purpose of this blog is for posting occasional updates and photos of Dahrius, but don't be offended if I seize the opportunity to go on a rant about some unrelated (or actually, related, since EVERYTHING is related at some level) topic. I will be fiddling with some of the capabilities of this system along the way, so bear with me. And hopefully Megan (and eventually Dahrius himself) will see fit to weigh in on occasion. We'll see.

Our opening post will include a photo series of Dahrius demonstrating his near-perfect somersault form. Where does he learn this stuff?

Happy December ya'll!
